Hi guys, Thanks for the kind words it has been going a little slower with the holiday honey do's catching up with me.
It was imported from Germany with just the nose, tail and nacelles in glass and a few templates for the hot wired wing and fuse. All the wood formers, supports, wing fillet and gear doors will be fabricated from scratch. Engines aligned up on the rail with (2) 3" clamps. Then I could glue the inlet pipe in place and begin building up the radius of the intake with epoxy and microballons. I shaped that close while the glue was still tacky and even formed it with my fingers a little before it set up fully. |

Spartan you know I am not sure what I need yet to control the second turbine beyond a y cord to each fadec. I got the on board start instead of the autostart so I have control of the propane and starter motors independantly without having to carry 2 buggy packs in flight. At least I shouldn't have to switch sides to light the fires and could even have all that in the nose. I welcome any suggestions on the subject.
Lt Dan there is a link to the kit mfg on #3 post. He also makes a Russian version of the VC-10 with 4 engines in the same spot I was considering it for a second. mnmills I apprecate your suggestions I would like to see more jets other than fighter and sport variety over here too. I wasn't even sure if anyone would be interested. Today I saw an onboard flight data recorder (black box)with a GPS interfaze it can even show flight path in a 3d computer program with altitude, speed, etc.? and they said you could use it to locate the plane if it goes down out of sight with a last known lat/lon on a second gps handheld. I wonder if the black boxes are made from un-ubtaininum like the real ones? |

Yeah that's the one for both of you.
The eagle tree system I wonder if it has engine monitoring for turbines and if so more than one? I saw it here http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/prod...roducts_id=751 Neat looking jets come out of Russia thats for sure.

Started hinging the doors to the nacelle using plywood spacers to fill the gap between the glass. I zapped a carbon rod to the 3 hinges first to keep the hinges aligned that was removed once the epoxy and micro ballons set up.
Also installed the second nacalle this time I used glass ballons and cabosil so it stayed white. On the first one I mixed Prather microballons (brown) in the epoxy. Once that set I began adding cloth to reinforce the plywood engine mounts and glued the inlet to the same rail that the turbine mounts to with a little cloth and epoxy. |

rolling my own
The stainless steel tailpipes are being formed on my new toy from harborfreight. I looked at some units that did just rolling or shearing and decided on this one that takes up a 1x3' spot on the bench. It can shear, brake and rollup to 30" and thickness under 20 ga. sheet metals and 5/32 to 7/32 musicwire to down to 1.5" dia. all with a turn of one handle.
The 3 rollers on top have a cover that keeps them protected when not being used. Next they will get mounted to the engine rails I'm trying both clamping and direct mounting to the nacelle with double walls intended. I bent a zigzag strap to lock in the seperation between the walls. Now to spot weld them together.

Now with the spot welder in hand I tryed some scrap first to get the feel of the new welder. No need for the welders shield with very little arc or light emitted just the sparks afly'n. The stainless didn't spark like the galvanized did but they both welded together great. I am going to add a flange to the inner tailpipe when they get here so I haven't welded it to the outer pipe yet but the fit so far is good with the opening at the rear of the nacelle a little larger than the inner tube allowing the outer air to flow out the gap. After this piece is installed it will get the track for the TR linkage to ride on and the rest of the fiberglass around the tailpipe will be replaced with more metal in the same shape.

I had 2 flanges to pick from the one on the left in the first shot was too much material so I went with the other and trimmed off the excess and sanded the inside. I used the flange to set the tube dia. at the front and spot welded it together. After laying out and drilling 3 holes it was attached with 4/40 screws and a nut. The excess screw past the nut was flaired over the nut with a hammer that will prevent it from ever backing off because I would not be able to get to it to re-tighten it if it ever did with it between the tubes. I have one more thing to add the the outer tubes before fixing the inner tube to it with the welder.

I have been busy working on the stab mounts but haven't taken any pictures in a few months. I took a job last month over at Gulfstream here in Long Beach, Ca. They have been keeping me pretty busy during the week. This was the first G-IV I worked on from TAG aviation we replaced the headliners, light covers and carpeting along with the 72 month inspection it was in for. Every seat had to come out and go back in. This week they are teaching me some vaccum bagging with heating pads and carbon fiber layups with 828 epoxy with 100/11 ratio. That catalist was smoking as soon as it hit the epoxy

Thanks everyone for the support and cheers on this effort.
My back went out on me reciently and I packed everything up for now. Moving to Seattle area soon, looking for closer flying fields and turbine friendly clubs in WA. Any club/flying site info would be great.
